Three Great Men

What’s the first thing that comes to mind, when you see these names:

  • Lance Armstrong
  • Tom Green
  • Scott Hamilton

It might not be Testicular Cancer but for the good of all around us it damned well should be!!

  • Lance Armstrong is a Tour de France winning Cyclist
  • Tom Green is a celebrity comedian
  • and Scott Hamilton is an Olympic medal-wining figure skater.

They’re all survivors of Testicular Cancer (and there’s thousands of us out there and growing by the day at the moment!). It is the most common form of cancer for men aged 15 to 34.

Despite the cancer dangers it has a massive chance of survivial (around 90%) providing it hasn’t spread to other body parts, Lance Armstrong’s testicular cancer had already invaded his lung, stomach and brain by the time he was diagnosed in 1996. (Mine had spread to my abdomen and thankfully stopped there!!). Armstrong went on to win the seven Tour de France trophies in his remission, I came back to fight another day  - those that have had it spread have a 50% survival rate when treated with chemotherapy.

The long and short of it is get yourself checked, and quick, in the shower is best - the steam and warmth make them drop and easier to find any problems. Do this regularly so you can identify ANY change!
